История жизни Бальзамины Склива
В найденных недавно письмах венецианских правителей, в которых рассказывается о венециано-турецкой войне 1570-1573 годов, содержится немало интересных подробностей, проливающих свет на события тех далеких лет.
Одна из самых интересных историй, увидевшая свет – жизнеописание женщины по имени Бальзамина Склива, дочери героя Георгиоса Склива.
Если кто-нибудь когда-то решит написать о её жизни подробно, получится увлекательнейший исторический роман.
Бальзамина родилась в семье Геогриоса Склива, начальника отряда береговой охраны и небольшого конного отряда. У неё было два брата – Иоаннис и Мартин. Семья жила в деревне Аканфус, в районе Фамагусты. Их предки были крупными землевладельцами, поэтому семья считалась зажиточной.
Бальзамина получила отличное образование, владела несколькими иностранными языками.
Это была эпоха, когда Кипр являлся одной из колоний Венецианской республики и кипрские градоначальники назначались непосредственно Дожем Венеции.
В 1560 году градоначальник Фамагусты, Доменико Тревизан, завершил свой труд - подробнейшее описание острова Кипр, включавшее географические, климатические, исторические сведения, описание быта и производства, данные по численности населения и многое другое.
Он был градоначальником Фамагусты с 1559 по 1561 год, до самой своей смерти. Его раннюю смерть можно объяснить невыносимо жарким кипрским климатом. Многие венецианские аристократы расставались с жизнью во время несения службы на Кипре – переносить жару, влажность и условия местного быта было под силу далеко не всем.
К счастью, Доменико Тревизан успел закончить свое описание Кипра. Его записи являются крайне ценным и информативным источником, описывающим Кипр той эпохи.
Отдельную главу он посвятил оборонительной гвардии Кипра и, в частности, легкой коннице.
Лишь благодаря его записям потомки спустя пять столетий могут получить исчерпывающую информацию о средневековой системе обороны Кипра в цифрах и фактах.
Помимо всего прочего, Домениго Тревизан упоминает в своих записях о Георгиосе Скливе, который возглавлял конницу восточного побережья Кипра. Под его началом находился отряд из 25 всадников.
Его отряд постоянно проводил учения, разрабатывал новую стратегию и был одним из лучших на Кипре. Его задачей было отражение нападения незванных гостей, прибывающих морем – пиратов, корсаров, турок, сарацин и других. Всадники его отряда постоянно жили в казарме, чтобы в любой момент дня и ночи они могли встать «под ружьё» на защиту родины.
В 1570 году, незадолго до того, как войскам оттоманской империи удалось сломить оборону и завоевать Кипр, Дожу стало известно о завоевательных планах турецкого султана.
Началась подготовка к войне – жители городов-крепостей Керинья, Лефоксия и Фамагуста приготовились к длительной осаде.
Многие сельские жители целыми общинами уходили далеко в горы Троодос и основывали там новые поселения.
Георгиос Скливас по приказу капитана Фамагусты был назначен главнокомандующим оборонительной армии, и, таким образом, он сам и вся его семья перебралась жить в Фамагусту.
После нескольких месяцев противостояния туркам всё-таки удалось сломить оборону и войти в город. Георгиос Скливас пал в неравном бою у деревни Маркасика, недалеко от Фамагусты.
При поддержке папы Пия V Испания, Венеция, Генуя, Сицилия, Неаполь и Австрия сформировали флот, но это не помогло - туркам удалось взять Кипр. Венецианского командующего Марка Антонио Брагадина, который принес туркам ключи от города, протащили волоком по городу, а потом с живого сняли кожу. Триста человек, пришедших с ним, были обезглавлены.
О гибели своего начальника писал Дожу подчиненный Скливаса, капитан Паоло Куки в сентябре 1571 года. В этой же схватке погибли два сына Георгиоса.
Продолжение истории семьи Склива нашлось в Венецианском архиве в письме, датированном 1575 годом.
Автор письма - молодая женщина, дочь Георгиоса Скливаса по имени Бальзамина.
Она вкратце писала Дожу о том, что довелось пережить ей и её семье во время войны и четырехлетнего рабства в Константинополе (Стамбуле), как ей удалось сбежать вместе со своими детьми и добраться до Венеции.
По приезде в Венецию Бальзамина была истощена физически и морально, дети были больны, все они голодали и им было негде жить и некуда податься – люди без родины, друзей и средств к существованию.
Поэтому она решилась написать Дожу, рассказать ему о верной службе своего отца, братьев и супруга под знаменем Святого Марка – покровителя Венеции, и попросить о материальной помощи.
Также она упоминала о нескольких поколениях своих предков, которые верой и правдой служили Венеции, защищая её владения на Кипре. Многие из них также пали в бою.
Бальзамина писала об имуществе своей семьи, оставшемся на Кипре – земельных владениях, недвижимости – всё это теперь принадлежало завоевателям.
В заключение Бальзамина умоляла Дожа выкупить из турецкого плена её супруга Иоанниса, который также верой и правдой служил Венеции.
Венецианский правитель благосклонно отнесся к просьбам женщины. Он с большим уважением и почтением отозвался о её отце и братьях, служивших и отдавших жизнь за Республику.
В отношении её отца и супруга Дож употребляет прилагательное «strenuo», что означает «храбрый, мужественный».
Он выразил своё глубокое сочувствие по поводу постигших её семью несчастий и восхитился силой её духа и недюжинной храбростью, которые сподвигли её на побег из неволи и долгую, тяжелую, полную опасностей и лишений дорогу в Венецию.
Дож выделил Бальзамине и её дочерям – Фьоренце и Вьене – пожизенную пенсию размером в один дукат.
Венецианский дукат весил 3,5 г и чеканился из почти чистого золота (986-я проба). Эти деньги обеспечили безбедное существование Бальзамине и её детям.
К сожалению, история её супруга продолжает оставаться неизвестной, но есть надежда, что со временем ещё одно письмо из древнего архива откроет нам и эту тайну.
