Понтийский язык и его диалекты
Предки понтийских греков - выходцы с юго-восточного побережья Черного моря - Понта (прибрежная полоса от Синопа до Батуми, вглубь материка по хребту Понтийских гор и гор Джаник.
Самым значительным, но не единственным отличием внутри анатолийских групп греков является их язык - говоры восточноанатолийского диалекта турецкого языка. Поэтому часто для обозначения этих групп используется их турецкий этноним "урумы".
Понтийские греки, самоназвание: ромеос (ρομέος), ромеи (ρομέοι). Идеологами национального движения понтийских греков в качестве отличного от греков современной материковой Греции этнонима используются “понтиос” (πόντιος),”понтийцы” (πόντιοι), в то же время под влиянием панэллинизма вводятся в обращение этнонимы - “эллинес” - “эллины”, “эллино-понтийцы”. Турецкое название понтийских греков - "урум", "hорум", "рум"; русское - "греки". Понтийцы называют тюркоязычных греков "цалки" или "цалкалидис" (τσαλκάλιδεις)по названию города Цалка в Грузии - центру урумов в Закавказье. Необходимо отметить, что тюркоязычные группы были и среди собственно понтийских греков (греки из окрестностей Бафры, Самсуна и др.). Самоназвание тюркоязычных понтийских греков на понтийском диалекте турецкого языка звучит как "rum" (ед. ч.) и "rumlar" (мн. ч.).
Тюркоязычные понтийцы имеют четкую этническую идентичность как греки Понта и отождествляют себя с общепонтийским культурным наследием. Далее в статье используется этноним "урумы" только в отношении тюркоязычных потомков греков из внутренней Анатолии. Численность понтийских греков не выделяется отдельно по переписи 1989 г. из общего числа греческого населения РФ. Понтийские греки составляют большинство в греческой диаспоре России.
Понтийские греки проживают в РФ, Армении, Грузии, (в том числе в Абхазии),в Греции, на Украине, в Азербайджане, Казахстане, Узбекистане, Турции, США, Германии, Канаде. На Северном Кавказе понтийские греки поселились в сельской местности, образовав ряд этноариальных групп: сочинская группа туапсинская группа, геленджикская группа - с. Адербиевка, пос. Кабардинка, с. Прасковеевка (проживают смешанно с русскими); анапская группа - пос. Витязево (преобладает греческое население, проживают также русские и немцы); крымская группа х. Новокрымск (Греческий), х. Ново-Украинский, с. Мерчанское (проживают смешанно с русскими); абинско-северская группа - х. Карсский (не сохранился), горячеключевская группа - с. Фанагорийское и др. (не сохранилась); апшеронская группа - х. Кура-Цеце (греческое население не сохранилось), х. Папазов (не сохранился), х. Акритасов (не сохранился); майкопско-белореченская группа - ряд мелких хуторов ставропольско-пятигорская группа - с. Хасаут-Греческое, п. Греческий, с. Бекешевка, с. Суворовка, с. Нагут (проживают смешанно с русскими).
Понтийские греки живут в крупных городах Российской Федерации - в Москве, Санкт-Петербурге, Ростове-на-Дону, Краснодаре, а также в Новороссийске, Геленджике, Туапсе, Сочи, Ставрополе, Пятигорске, Владикавказе, Томске, Новосибирске, Красноярске, Омске , Иркутске. Также понтийские греки проживают в Грузии, в Дманисском районе - в Цалкинском районе - с. Гумбат, с. Тарсон, с. Санта, с. Неон-Хараба и села с преобладающим урумским населением - Хадык, Гуниякала, Так-Килиса, Еди-Килиса, Цинцкаро, Джинис, Авранло, Хандо, Бешташен, Байбурт, Башков, Ливад, Караком, Олянк; в Боржомском районе - с. Цихисджвари; в Марнеульском райрне - Опрети (урумы); в Ахалцикхском районе - Микел-Цминда (в том числе урумы); в Абхазии, преимущественно в Сухумском районе.
Очень интересна топономика некоторых греческих сел Цалкинского района – под кажущимися турецкими названиями сел скрываются хорошо замаскированные греческие слова. Чаще всего турецкие слова являются семантической калькой греческих, к примеру Бешташен – Пять камней (Πέντε Πέτρες), Еди Килисе - Семь Церквей (Επτά Εκκλησίες), друие ассимилированы под влиянием турецкого языка, в частности, произношения - Авранло (ассимилированное Аврени – αυριανή) – завтрашняя, Кяряк – (γεράκι) – орел, Ливад – λιβάδι – луг, поляна, пастбище, Олянк – (όλοι ΄ανικοι) – «все непобедимые» - (говорят, что жители этого села отличались невероятной храбростью и из любого боя выходили победителями) , Реха – ρηχά (мелководье), Караком – (χαράκωμα)-укрепленное, Имера – это название сохранилось неизмененным – ημέρα - день.
Немногочисленные группы понтийских греков проживают в Армении, повсеместно смешаны с армянами: в Зангезурском районе - с.Михайловка, с. Катар; в Алавердском районе села Шомлер, Сисимядян, г. Алаверды; в Степанаванском районе - с. Когес, с. Ягдан, г. Степанован; и в Азербайджане (с. Мехмене в ущелье реки Тертер (Нагорный Карабах), 35 семей (по данным на 1995 г.). На Украине понтийские греки проживают в бывшей Крымской области, Донецкой и Запорожской областях, в основном всельской местности.
