Приближается Пасха, один из самых древних праздников. И в России, и на Кипре Пасха является самым важным для православных христиан событием и занимает особое место "праздника праздников". Подготовка к Пасхе предполагает последовательное соблюдение ряда религиозных предписаний.
Ровно за неделю до начала Великого Поста в России начинают праздновать Масленицу – радостный и светлый Христианский праздник. Люди провожают надоевшую зиму, ходят друг к другу в гости и пекут блины, которые имеют ритуальное значение: круглые, румяные, горячие, они являют собой символ солнца, которое все ярче разгорается, удлиняя дни. Символом Масленицы является чучело из соломы, обряженное в женские одежды, с блином и сковородкой. С ним вместе веселятся, а затем провожают, сжигая на костре. Масленицу еще называют “Мясопустом”, потому что в течение этой недели уже не полагается есть мясо.
Первый день Поста называют “Чистый Понедельник” (Καθαρή Δευτέρα). Он символизирует начало периода “весны души” - обуздания душевных и телесных чувств . По российской традиции принято в этот день "очиститься": пойти в баню и попариться с березовым или можжевеловым веником. На Кипре этот день отмечают выезжая на пикники и запуская в небо ярких воздушных змеев.
Затем начитается Великий Пост, к которому супермаркеты Кипра готовятся особенно тщательно: обилие свежей рыбы и морепродуктов, постные сыры и приправы, развалы свежей зелени и фруктов... В общем, поститься на Кипре – одно удовольствие!
Каждый день недели в Православной Церкви приурочен к особому воспоминанию: Пресвятой Богородицы, Иоанна Крестителя и др.. Во время Великого Поста и на Кипре и в России во вторую, третью и четвертую субботу принято посещать кладбище, навещать могилы умерших близких.
Великий Пост длится семь недель. Четверг последней, седьмой недели называют Чистым - время уборки в доме, окрашивания пасхальных яиц, приготовления куличей, а на Кипре это время выпечки вкусных флаун.
Великая, Страстная пятница считается самым скорбным днем церковного года. В этот день Иисус Христос был распят и умер на Кресте, искупая людские грехи. В Страстную пятницу верующие соблюдают строжайший пост.
